Every year we will write a blog post with our top 3 priorities for the upcoming year - or at least what we think our priorities will be! We recognize as a startup planning is incredibly important but so is staying agile.
Goal 1 - Profitability
What can we say, we practice what we preach. We want to run a profitable startup and our major goal for 2024 is to get there. We are not operating at a significant loss currently and believe we have a clear path to achieve this goal in the first half of 2024.
If we decide to deprioritize this I have a feeling it would come with a funding round where we determine speed is a huge priority. I am extremely interested to reflect back on if we did or did not pivot on this. Regardless, I want to show that we CAN operate at a profit - this is absolutely priority #1.
Goal 2 - Scalable GTM
This goes hand in hand with our first goal. There are two sides to being profitable. The first side is generating revenue, the second is maintaining a low cost base.
Our second goal for 2024 is to build a scalable GTM. We are currently in beta and our initial customers (thank you to them!) have seen great results so far. We have a lot of hypotheses on the right way to acquire customers at scale and are excited to test these in depth come the New Year.
It has been extremely difficult for me to stay patient with this goal. My personality says "go, go, go as fast as you can", but I also realize that we are only a few months into this. We cannot build a scalable product before we know what value we are providing for our customers. I feel good about where we are in the beta feedback journey, but there is always going to be a pull in both directions to go and wait. I will always lean towards GO!
Goal 3 - Build a world class team
What is a startup if not the sum of its parts. I am lucky to have an amazing co-founder and initial developers. As we figure out goals 1 and 2 - goal 3 will follow quickly. To be profitable and scale GTM we need an amazing team across different functions. We are excited to hopefully ramp up hiring come the second half of 2024.
I have a strong feeling developers will be our first few hires. After that I am very interested which roles are next. Sales, CS, Marketing? Something else? Who we hire will depend on which GTM hypotheses see the best results.
